A field service schedule can look perfectly reasonable first thing in the morning. By lunch, it may barely resemble the original plan.

None of this is unusual. The difficult part is keeping the day moving while all of it happens.

That gets harder when the schedule is in one place, technician details are somewhere else, and field updates arrive through calls and messages. Small teams can often work around that. As the number of technicians and jobs grows, the same approach starts creating problems of its own.

1. The Same Technician Gets Booked for Two Jobs

Double booking rarely starts with a major mistake. Usually, information simply does not make it from one person to another.

A job gets added to the calendar. Someone else confirms another appointment by phone. The dispatcher does not see the second update until two customers are expecting the same technician.

Now one appointment has to move, another technician may have to be pulled from somewhere else, and the office is spending time fixing a conflict that could have been caught earlier.
